The Generation Future Young Achiever Award recognises and encourages emerging talent in the Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders & Logistics Industry.  
 

Revitalising the Young Logistics Professional Award for 2025

Following a comprehensive review of the YLPA award criteria, members of CBAFF Council, alongside past winners and runners-up, identified key areas for improvement. With a renewed focus on inclusivity and accessibility, the competition has been expanded and revitalised to provide greater opportunities for emerging talent in the industry.
 
Open to individuals under 35, the Generation Future Young Achiever Award celebrates passion, commitment, and potential within the logistics sector while fostering both personal and professional growth.
 
This competition is now more accessible than ever, welcoming applicants from all roles and experience levels - ensuring that everyone with ambition and drive has the opportunity to be recognised.
 

Additional Recognition - Manager/Mentor Award 

A separate award (certificate) will recognise managers, mentors, or sponsors who actively support young professionals in logistics, encouraging more industry leaders to invest in future talent. 
 

Eligibility Criteria 

 
  • Aged 35 or under at the time of submission. 
  • Employed in logistics (Customs Broking, Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain or a related field) for at least two years. 
  • Nominated or endorsed by a manager, mentor, or industry sponsor. 
 
 
 
 

Submission Deadline 

All entries must be emailed to admin(at)cbaff.org.nz , and be received by Friday 27th June 2025.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Awards & Recognition 

Winner 

  • Professional development scholarship 
  • Professional business photoshoot 
  • Mystery Break for two 
  • Complimentary attendance at the annual CBAFF Conference attendance including:
    • return flights to the annual CBAFF Conference destination, and
    • accommodation at the annual CBAFF Conference desitnation
  • CBAFF nomination for the FIATA Young Logistics Professional Competition for the following year
  • Award Trophy 

Finalists

  • Complementary attendance at the annual CBAFF Conference Dinner for the announcement of the winner and award presentation, including:
    • return flights to the annual CBAFF Conference destination, and
    • one night’s accommodation at the annual CBAFF Conference desitnation
  • Training voucher for industry-related courses 
All finalists will receive a certificate of recognition, social media spotlights, and publication of their stories on the CBAFF website. 
 

Competition Format 

 
Applicants may choose one of the following submission formats :
  • Short Essay (1,000-1,500 words) – Reflecting on personal experiences, industry challenges, or career aspirations. 
  • Video Presentation (up to 5 minutes) – A dynamic and engaging way to share their story. 
  • Creative Submission – Infographic, blog-style article, or digital portfolio. 
Each submission must be accompanied by:
  • A reference letter from their manager, mentor, or sponsor. 
  • A short response to the following questions from CBAFF (answered by their mentor/sponsor).
    • Why did you nominate [Nominee’s Name] for the Generation Future Young Achievers Award?
    • How has [Nominee’s Name] demonstrated passion, personal growth, and progression in their role or studies?
    • In what ways has [Nominee’s Name] engaged with the industry, peers, or educational opportunities to further their development?
    • How has your mentorship/sponsorship supported [Nominee’s Name]’s journey and contributed to their success?
    • Why do you believe it is important to support and invest in young talent in the logistics industry?
 

Encouraged Theme 

Applicants are encouraged to share their personal journey of growth and development in the logistics sector. This could include overcoming obstacles in advancing their career, building new skills, adapting to industry shifts, or tackling complex challenges. Reflecting on experiences that shaped their resilience, problem-solving abilities, and professional growth will help illustrate their journey. ​​​​​​

Judging Criteria 

  • Passion for the Industry (20%) – Enthusiasm and commitment to logistics. 
  • Personal Growth & Learning (30%) – Career progression, adaptability, and development. 
  • Presentation & Communication (30%) – Clarity, engagement, and effectiveness of message. 
  • Interview Performance (20%) – Ability to articulate experiences and aspirations. 

Interview & Recognition Process 

  • Interviews will be held late July, approximately six weeks before the conference. 
  • The interview will focus on the person behind the application. 
  • Finalists will be announced before the conference and featured on CBAFF’s website and social media. 
  • A President/CEO interview and social media spotlight will highlight finalist success stories. 
  • Finalists will also receive networking and mentorship opportunities with CBAFF members. 
  • The YLPA FIATA Award will require the entry to meet the official FIATA entry requirements in order to be considered. This ensures alignment with FIATA's standards and guidelines for award eligibility.
